Black Bird Regards You

The wide, milk-white eyes stare outward with an arrested quality that reaches toward the confrontational flatness of Jean-Michel Basquiat's animal figures - raw, frontally presented, unmediated by perspective or decorum. An orange beak bisects the ovoid black form with chromatic insistence, while the flanking wing-shapes hover like half-formed letters dissolving back into pictographic noise. The work occupies the fertile territory between image and symbol.
