The ochre outline describes a form caught between botanical illustration and pure abstraction - a closed, almost shield-like mass from which two diverging lines escape downward, refusing containment. There is something of the Jugendstil herbarium here, that turn-of-the-century conviction that plant morphology could carry the entire weight of design. Osei-Mensah compresses the argument into a handful of strokes, the warm brown pigment anchoring what might otherwise dissolve into diagram.
